Chelsea keep quiet over fitness of John Terry
Chelsea plan to remain quiet on the fitness of captain John Terry and playmaker Eden Hazard ahead of tomorrow's trip to Amsterdam for Wednesday's Europa League final with Benfica.
The pair were injured in Saturday's win at Aston Villa - which all-but assured Chelsea of Champions League football next term - and underwent scans, but the results will not be made public by the Blues to avoid giving Benfica an advantage.
Rafael Benitez may choose to reveal the extent of the injuries in his eve-of-match press conference at the Amsterdam ArenA tomorrow, but he may also wish to keep the Portuguese outfit guessing as Chelsea bid to end a second successive season with a European trophy.
Terry was carried from the field on a stretcher after a knock to the ankle, while Hazard finished the game nursing a hamstring complaint. The Belgian had only recently recovered from a calf knock.
Terry has been in and out of the side of late and may not have been selected, but any loss of Hazard would be a blow as the former Lille forward has blossomed this season.
Speaking after the match at Villa Park, won 2-1 as Frank Lampard scored twice to break the Blues' club goalscoring record, Benitez said: "That's the bad news today, the two injuries.
"Both players are injured - Terry and Hazard. We don't know (if they will be fit for the final), we will wait for the scans."
Meanwhile, UEFA has announced Dutch official Bjorn Kuipers will referee Wednesday's match at the Amsterdam ArenA.

When it comes to European competition, Chelsea know how to save the best until last, David Luiz's free-kick in the fourth and final minute of added time giving the Blues a 2-1 win in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final at FC Basel.
Fenerbahce will take a 1-0 lead to SL Benfica next week after hitting the woodwork three times, including from a missed penalty, before Egemen Korkmaz finally made the breakthrough – inevitably via the post – in an eventful UEFA Europa League semi-final tie.
The visit of FC Rubin Kazan is Chelsea FC's second match in a run of eight games in 22 days, yet Rafael Benítez is confident the Blues can continue to battle on three fronts.
Tottenham Hotspur FC boss André Villas-Boas will ask his strikers to negate the loss of Jermain Defoe while FC Basel 1893's Murat Yakin must deal with defensive absentees.
SL Benfica may be favourites as Newcastle United FC visit Lisbon but coach Jorge Jesus does not expect an easy route to the semi-finals, predicting "an even tie – it will be hard".
Aykut Kocaman says that S.S. Lazio will be a "step up" for his Fenerbahçe SK side while the first leg in Istanbul is a trip down memory lane for two of the visiting party.
